Social Work is a varied discipline that seeks to attain satisfying relationships and offer a broad range of services and resources at the individual, local, state, and federal level. The Associate of Arts degree in Social Work is intended for students who are interested in helping populations of varying of ages, backgrounds, and needs. The concepts and skills students learn will prepare them to directly transfer into a Social Work program, understand the roles of a social worker and various service delivery systems, identify careers of interest in Social Work, hear from individuals working in a multitude of sectors within Social Work, and connect principles in Social Work to their application in the real world. Students can expect employment in a wide range of interest areas, including as a case manager for various service programs, an addiction practitioner for victims of substance abuse, a community developer, in residential homes for the disabled or elderly, in labor unions, a human relations specialist, an instructor/professor at a college or university, or as a health care provider. Students intending to work in Social Work will need at least a Bachelor’s degree with more opportunities available with a Master’s degree. There are careers in Social Work available in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, and nationwide.
