POLS 2250 - Latin American Studies Credits: 3 During this course, students will study the culture, history and politics of Latin America, from the Rio Grande on the U. S.-Mexico border on the north to the Antarctic tundra of Patagonia and the glaciers of Tierra del Fuego on the south. The course will consider historical events and encounters from pre-Colombian times to contemporary occurrences; the box of disciplinary resources for this adventure will include geography, anthropology, history, political economy, literature, language, and cultural studies. Readings, lectures, in-class discussions, films, written and creative assignments will help explore this fascinating region in the context of its own internal dynamics as well as its relationship with the larger world.
