Nursing Assistant Certificate

This four-credit course (NRST 1510) prepares an individual to work as an assistant to and under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel with an emphasis on the elderly client. The course includes basic nursing assistant principles, as well as practice and demonstration of skills related to client care. Students’ time will be divided between theory, laboratory time, and supervised clinical experience. Satisfactory completion of the course entitles the student to take a competency exam to become “Certified” in the State of Wyoming. Certification is necessary for employment as a nursing assistant in Wyoming.

Western follows the requirements established by our clinical partners, as well as Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and recommendations for immunizations for healthcare providers. Students in the course must provide official documentation of each of the items listed below. Students must meet the clinical requirements to attend clinical. Clinical attendance is mandatory to pass the course. Detailed information is provided upon enrollment.

American Heart Association BLS/Healthcare Provider

Immunizations: TB skin test, MMR, Tdap, hepatitis B, varicella, seasonal influenza, and COVID-19.
