TECH 1650 - SFR Nuclear Plant Safety

Credits: 3

Nuclear technicians are required to understand the specifics behind the type of fuel, reactor, and energy conversions specific to a nuclear plant. This safety course covers basic principles of sodium-cooled fast reactors, solid state fuel (HALEU) radioactivity and reactor basics, energy conversion equipment and processes, controls, and containment within very high-temperature environments, radiation detection instruments and mitigation plans, USNRC/ IEC/ IAEA approved protocols, and site-specific plans developed by industry partners.
Prerequisite: PLOP 1510 and TECH 1600 (C or better in both)
