Beginning with the works of Mark Twain, the literature of this course covers the influence of Darwinism, America’s shifting from a nation of farmers to a nation of factory works, the disillusionment after WWI, the frantic values of the Roaring Twenties, the intellectual struggles of the Great Depression, and the efforts to define modern literature.
